Temple Children was founded in 2015 by Hilo-native Miya Tsukazaki and began as a pure passion project. Prior to a global adventure working in the field of contemporary & public art, Miya earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles and a J.D. and Certificate in Environmental Law from the William S. Richardson School of Law. Her intimate connection with the natural world, combined with inspiration from her travels shaped Temple Children’s mission - to elevate platforms for the arts, food and environmentalism and cultivate sustainable creative systems for generations to come.
Miya specializes in producing unique experiences and opportunities — with the goal to bring like-minded professionals together to experiment, discover new avenues of creativity, and uplift her community through creative stimulation and education. She is a firm believer that collaboration — expanding personal boundaries and breaking out of one’s own ʻboxʻ — is what allows the magic to appear. Miya has experimented with this idea through the years as a creative producer - organizing and curating events, public art projects, art exhibitions, artist residencies, and creative films on the Big Island, Oʻahu and Maui, Hawai‘i; Detroit, Michigan; and Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.
Miya practices a holistic co-existence with nature and is inspired by the interconnectedness of all living things. She attributes Temple Children’s success to her phenomenal community across the globe, who share her values and support her journey in forging her own, uncharted career path.
Miya is an artist of life, avid cook, freediver and the mother of a remarkable little human.
