Temple Children was founded in 2015 by Hilo-native, Miya Tsukazaki. Prior to a global adventure working in the field of public art & media, Miya earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles and a J.D. and Certificate in Environmental Law from the William S. Richardson School of Law. Her intimate connection with the natural world, combined with inspiration from her travels shaped Temple Children’s mission - to cultivate sustainable, creative opportunities for generations to come.
Miya is committed to harnessing the transformative power of the arts to drive community empowerment and sustainable change.. Over the last decade, she has led multidisciplinary projects that span public art, cultural programming, and socially engaged design on Hawaiʻi Island. With every initiative, she brings a unique blend of artistic innovation and social purpose, grounded in collaboration and a deep love for her community. She’s forged a unique path, organizing and curating projects on the Big Island, Oʻahu and Maui, Hawai‘i; Detroit, Michigan; and Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. Miya is also the co-founder of Hawaiʻi Art Hui and the Creative Director of Hawaiʻi Island Art Alliance.
Miya practices a holistic co-existence with nature and is inspired by the interconnectedness of all living things. She is an artist of life, avid cook, free-diver and the mother of a remarkable little human.
